Robert Kirkman announces The Walking Dead Deluxe series in full color

Skybound Entertainment and Image Comics announced a reissue of The Walking Dead as a color edition. That’s right, the classic black and white comic are coming back with full color and more. The Walking Dead rerelease will be a re-print in full-color, including “cutting room floor” content.

Robert Kirkman announced Skybound Xpo this afternoon at the “Skybound: Past, Present, and Future” panel. Kirkman revealed the new run called The Walking Dead Deluxe, colored by artist Dave McCaig (Adam StrangeX-Men). The first issue will feature five different covers, including the original classic #1 cover re-colored by McCaig, and new covers from David Finch (Batman: The Dark KnightThe New Avengers), and three series artists in Charlie AdlardJulian Totino Tedesco, and Arthur Adams.

We can expect variant covers throughout the series, but there are no plans to collect them in trade. The first issue hits shelves on October 7, with two issues each following month.

This deluxe revival of the series will also feature a memorable array of variant covers—by such artists as David Finch, Tony Moore, Julian Totino Tedesco, and Arthur Adams—commemorating major character introductions and the series’ most memorable twists and turns. Each issue will include a new installment of “The Cutting Room Floor,” featuring Kirkman’s original handwritten plots along with commentary on abandoned storylines and plot points that may have changed along the way. This definitive presentation of the story will NOT be collected into trade paperback any time soon, so fans and new readers should not trade-wait to experience this fully colored edition of the popular survival horror series. Issue #1 will be available on October 7. Each following month two issues will be released.
